Interview mit Darren
Who are you? I come from Australia! I enjoy cycling, playing video games, drawing, yoga, walking, and sleeping. My favourite colour is green. Professionally, I am a comic artist and university teacher in animation, drawing, comics and concept art. In my free time I love to draw and make comics! Also cuddle with my cat, Persia.
I came across SOS Children's Villages by chance, and am very happy I had the chance to meet you all.“ - Darren.
As a child, my greatest wish was to be able to fly. My second greatest wish was to draw comics when I grew up. And one of those wishes came true.
I volunteer with SOS Children's Villages because when I was young I didn’t know any adults who drew or made comics. It is important to have role models for the activities we love, and so I hope that by demonstrating my love for drawing, some people feel a bit safer and empowered to explore art making themselves.
My biggest highlight as a volunteer was getting to know the kids and gaining a little bit of trust. Some moments stand out with the table full of people getting into the joy of drawing, or helping with tips for how to draw something in particular. And the dancing!
If I were Superman, I would change the distribution of capital and make sure everyone has food to eat, clean water to drink, and housing to live in.
